The abbr element identifies an acronym or abbreviation in close proximity to its fully spelled-out defining word or phrase.
A browser may display the title attribute as a tooltip when the mouse is positioned over the text.
Properties
- title
- When an acronym is the target, the title attribute spells out the individual words of the acronym.
- When an abbreviation is the target, the title attribute provides the full, unabbreviated word itself.
Examples
The <<abbr *title='American Meteorological Society' AMC>> cloud
classification system groups clouds by appearance and process of
formation.
Thunderheads <<abbr *title="Cumulonimbus" (Cb)>> can form alone
or in clusters or along a squall line.
